Seaborne shipments of crude oil and heavy petroleum products originating from the Caribbean Basin have expanded sharply this year, posting a 45% increase compared with 2025 volumes, according to analysis from shipping association BIMCO.

Citing tracking metrics from Signal Ocean, BIMCO Chief Shipping Analyst Niels Rasmussen reported that year-to-date despatches from the region have risen by 234 million barrels year-on-year. The increase equates to an additional 880,000 barrels per day entering maritime trade lanes.

As reported by Hellenic Shipping News Worldwide, the export assessments include revisions accounting for an uptick in cargo transhipped via the Bahamas.
