Saudi Arabia's strategy to reroute crude oil away from the Strait of Hormuz has faced a direct challenge. The East-West pipeline, which transports crude to the Red Sea port of Yanbu, was targeted in an assault last week.
According to Hellenic Shipping News Worldwide, a pumping station on this pipeline was attacked on 10th September, leading to its pre-emptive shutdown. This incident occurred on the same day that Houthi forces reportedly seized control of Perim Island.
This development impacts Saudi Arabia's efforts to maintain oil export flexibility amidst regional tensions and challenges to traditional shipping routes.
