The global fleet of liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunker vessels may need substantial expansion by 2030 to keep pace with the rising fuel requirements of LNG-powered ships, a new report by DNV suggests.
According to the classification society's white paper, the growth in demand from LNG-fuelled vessels is outpacing the development of the necessary supply infrastructure. This imbalance necessitates a significant increase in bunkering capacity.
DNV's analysis estimates that between 165 and 208 dedicated bunker vessels could be required worldwide by the close of the current decade.
