Qatar and the United Arab Emirates are exploring alternative methods to mitigate the impact of ongoing disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz on liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipments.
According to reports from Hellenic Shipping News Worldwide, both nations have engaged in emergency ship-to-ship (STS) transfers to reroute compromised LNG tankers. This strategy aims to ensure a continued supply of natural gas to international buyers.
These logistical adjustments come as LNG export volumes from Qatar and the UAE remain significantly below the levels observed prior to the conflict. Recently, three Gulf cargoes were reportedly transported using STS methods as part of these efforts.
The deployment of STS operations highlights the industry's response to the challenges posed by the blockade, which has persisted for half a year.
