Canadian crude producer Strathcona Resources is advancing plans to export up to 250,000 barrels per day of crude oil to Asian buyers via British Columbia's northern coastline.
The venture would rely on hauling crude by rail to a newly constructed marine terminal situated in Prince Rupert, according to a report by OilPrice.com citing remarks made to Bloomberg.
Materialising the logistics scheme requires federal intervention, as the company needs an official exemption from Ottawa's established moratorium on oil tanker movements along the province's northern coast. Strathcona Chairman Adam Waterous indicated that the operator intends to present the proposal to Prime Minister Mark Carney's administration as early as next week.
