Malta-headquartered energy and commodity trading company, Alkagesta, has announced the promotion of Anthony Guida to Biofuels Trading Desk Lead. This appointment follows Guida's work since the desk's inception last year, developing and scaling the firm's biofuels business, as reported by the Times of Malta.
Guida, who joined Alkagesta in January 2025, possesses a decade of experience from prominent energy trading organisations, including S&P Global Platts, Phillips 66, and PETRONAS. His background encompasses crude oil market analysis, strategic development, and commercial positions across various energy and carbon markets.
Under Guida's direction, Alkagesta's biofuels operations have expanded across the entire value chain, facilitating connections between smaller feedstock and waste-oil suppliers and established European refiners and producers of biodiesel, HVO, and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Notable achievements include securing a multi-year offtake contract in Malta and Italy, arranging storage at Pantank's Antwerp terminal, and guiding the company through ISCC CORSIA certification in January 2026, which enabled SAF trading.
This certification also supported Alkagesta's entry into jet fuel trading. By February 2026, the company had gained commercial access to NATO’s Central European Pipeline System (CEPS), a 5,000-kilometre network. This access has opened new delivery routes for jet fuel and SAF to airports in Germany and Belgium, with Alkagesta projecting to trade approximately 100,000 tonnes of jet fuel in 2026.
Parallel to this growth, Alkagesta also executed its initial crude oil transaction in 2Q 2026, loading 1.07 million barrels of CPC Blend for delivery to the Far East. This strategic move formalises the company's entry into the crude market, complementing its existing petroleum products, biofuels, and jet fuel activities. The biofuels desk’s growth has further benefited from Alkagesta’s investment in a used cooking oil (UCO) processing facility, where equity barrel volumes have increased from 734 to 1,860 tonnes, broadening its advanced biofuels portfolio.
