Alkagesta is expanding its operational footprint within the European energy market, increasing the supply of Jet A-1 aviation fuel, ultra-low-sulphur fuel oil (ULSFO), and advanced biofuels. This strategic growth encompasses various regional markets, including Romania, as reported by Romania Insider.
Since February 2026, the company has been supplying Jet A-1 aviation fuel via the NATO pipeline system across Europe. Its initial operations involved airports in Brussels and Frankfurt, with services now extended to five airports in Germany and Belgium, solidifying its position in the European aviation fuel sector. Furthermore, Alkagesta was an early provider of ULSFO in the Central and Eastern Mediterranean, delivering over 500,000 tons of the fuel throughout the Mediterranean in 2025 following the May 2025 implementation of ECA environmental regulations, according to its ESG report.
Developing its biofuels division remains a priority, with Alkagesta enhancing feedstock procurement, regional logistics, and overall advanced biofuel supply capabilities. The company's Romanian division, Alkagesta, is growing in importance for its sustainable fuel and renewable energy strategy in Eastern Europe. Anthony Guida, a Biofuels Trader at Alkagesta, stated that since establishing a dedicated biofuels desk in 2025, they have developed a certified, end-to-end trading platform that combines market access with risk management to provide scalable solutions across the biofuels value chain.
Alkagesta views biofuels as a practical and scalable decarbonisation solution due to their compatibility with existing supply chains, which avoids substantial infrastructure investment. The company is also focusing on Used Cooking Oil (UCO) recycling and secondary raw material processing. An investment in a UCO processing facility in 2022 has led to growth in collection and recycling volumes, with UCO collection rising from 734 tons to 1,860 tons and processed secondary raw materials almost tripling to 1,780 tons. This expansion was attributed to improved collection networks, logistical coordination, processing efficiency, and increased sourcing, including UCO from Malta, as part of a regional circular economy.
Globally, Alkagesta operates across 48 countries, maintaining 17 offices and representative locations. Its fuel storage infrastructure in Europe and Asia exceeds 700,000 cubic metres.
