The government of the Czech Republic is set to reinstate price ceilings for petrol and diesel fuels, according to a report by OilPrice.com. This measure, effective from October 1, will also introduce a tax on refining margins.
Refiners will be subject to a levy on 50% of any margin increase exceeding their 2025 levels. This policy is being implemented against a backdrop of reduced crude oil allocations to Europe from Saudi Arabia for October, as well as ongoing pressures related to the Strait of Hormuz.
Official statements from the Czech government indicate that the price cap mechanism will involve a daily calculation of maximum petrol and diesel prices. This calculation is based on a three-day rolling average derived from four key benchmarks: Orlen Unipetrol, MOL, ČEPRO, and Platts quotations. A regulated margin of 2.50 Czech crowns per litre will then be added to this average.
