Oil prices showed an upward trend in early Asian trading on Wednesday, with both major benchmarks experiencing gains exceeding $1 per barrel. This increase positions crude prices nearer to the $100 mark.

The surge in prices is linked to heightened geopolitical tensions between the United States and Iran. According to OilPrice.com, these events represent a significant escalation of hostilities that commenced over the recent weekend.

The latest incidents reportedly include the US military's destruction of five Iranian crude oil tankers. Separately, Iranian forces are said to have targeted US personnel stationed in Jordan.

These actions follow an earlier development where US forces reportedly struck three other oil tankers. That prior action was described as a response to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) allegedly targeting two US naval vessels.

At the time of the report, West Texas Intermediate (WTI) was trading at $94.39 a barrel, while Brent crude had reached $99.46 a barrel. US Central Command (Centcom) is cited as having made an announcement regarding these developments.
